Summer

Mom Life

Some parents dread summer break, but I don't. Maybe because I don't have a 9-5 job that I have to commute to or log into. Maybe because my kids can naturally be homebodies like me. Maybe because summer gives me the excuse to check out of the busyness of life and just slow down.

Like most parents, I spend the whole school year scheduling out important school events, school tests, spirits days, medical appointments, playdates, after-school activities, and everything in between. Our lives revolve around our kids' schedules. I find myself constantly telling my girls we have to leave to go to the next actitivity, reminding them they have to finish their homework, or announcing what time it is so we aren't late for school. It's so mentally draining having to repeat yourself over and over so your kids don't fall behind... but I understand that's the job of a parent.

Summer gives us a break... it's the time of year I choose to not have a rigid schedule and not have to hurry anywhere. It gives us slow mornings. It's the time I can also be totally mentally present and not performing "mom math" on how much time we need to get ready for the next activity. Summer is when everything secondary goes on the backburner, including my business. And I'm okay with that.

Summer gives us time for a trip. We don't have to worry about missing school and we don't have to rush to come back. This year we went to California. My girls never get to see their "Lola" in person, so I knew this trip was important not only for them, but also for my mom. We got to eat lots of filipino food, see all the sights I knew and visited as a kid, and spend quality time with family. It was a trip that was definitely good for the soul.

As wonderful as summer has been, it has given me the reset to venture into the next season: fall. It’s the beginning of another school year, another chapter for our kids, and the start of a holiday season when families naturally begin thinking about togetherness and traditions. There are so many special moments to document during this time of year.

Looking forward to picking up my camera again to capture another beautiful season of moments of not only my family but other families too!
